A great debate between Christians and Jewish writers in the nature of God as a parent or abba ( the Aramaic word for father ) . The debate began with a German Lutheran scholar Joachim Jeremias , wrote in his book , “Prayer of Jesus ” , translated by John Bowden . Their main argument is repeated in slightly modified forms most Christians . Edward Schillebeeckx has become popular among Catholics in his book ” Jesus. ” God

Jeremiah essentially saying is, first, ” abba ” is a special use of Jesus standing in the center of his teaching , on the other hand, as Jesus expressed a particular type of intimacy and tenderness that arises from the origin of the word ” Abba ” baby talk , the third, which was different from the practice of Judaism . His argument was that Jesus was referring to God as Abba is not derived from the OT or Jewish Palestine . Instead, she represents his unique relationship with the “Father ” . Therefore, some Christian writers have continued to say that God can be called ” Dad ” as saying that it is too casual and disrespectful. Interestingly , the authors Christian feminists have had a serious problem with the idea of God as a man and has written several critical works . God

While most of the contemporary church , just repeat the above and popular theology based on this [See the article “Fatherhood of God” in the Evangelical Dictionary of Biblical Theology Baker] , was severely criticized . Mary Rose D’Angelo strong evidence against it in his article ” Abba and ‘Father’ : Imperial Theology and the Jesus traditions [Mary Rose D’Angelo , Journal of Biblical Literature , vol . 111 , No. 4 (Winter 1992 ) , pp. 611-630 . Published by: Society of Biblical Literature] Several Jewish writers as Alon Goshen – Gottstein [See “God the Father in rabbinic Judaism and Christianity : History processed or common ground ? ” Journal of Ecumenical Studies , 38:4 , Spring 2001] and Gerald Friedlander [See ” Jewish Sources of the Sermon on the Mount ” , published by Kessinger Publishing, LLC ( January 11, 2005 ) ] provided evidence that the rabbis and Jews use ” abba ” for God.

S. Vernon McCasland , University of Virginia wrote : ” The term ” Abba , Father ” only appears three times in the New Testament … ( It) is a challenge due to the way the translators challenged from the beginning until today . 27 translations I consulted below illustrate the problem … Almost without exception , simply transcribed. Abba But not a word in English or Latin, German , French or Spanish , and no player in most cases , unless becomes a Semitist could do more than make a rough estimate of what it means . He strikes the unwary as a player incomprehensible incantation magic formula . Most translators have left after being accused of a deadly mana ” . [See ” Abba , Father ” by S. Vernon McCasland , Journal of Biblical Literature , vol . 72 , No. 2 ( June 1953) , pp. 79-91 . Published by the Society of Biblical Literature]

Many Christians when they hear of me , they think we have no relationship with God that Christians refer to God in human terms of father and son. They see Christians as having a “personal” relationship with Jesus and the Father , but ” Allah ” appears to be a remote control for them.

About mogamoon188

I will arise and go now, and go to Innisfree, And a small cabin build there, of clay and wattles made: Nine bean-rows will I have there, a hive for the honeybee, And live alone in the bee-loud glade. And I shall have some peace there, for peace comes dropping slow, Dropping from the veils of the morning to where the cricket sings; There midnight's all a glimmer, and noon a purple glow, And evening full of the linnet's wings. I will arise and go now, for always night and day I hear lake water lapping with low sounds by the shore; While I stand on the roadway, or on the pavements gray, I hear it in the deep heart's core.
